Minnesota Department of Transportation – Bridge Railing Systems Inspections Minnesota

Minnesota Department of Transportation – Bridge Railing Systems Inspections Minnesota

When the Minnesota Department of Transportation identified construction issues in some regional bridge railing systems, AET was contracted to inspect over 25 bridges using the structural tube railing system throughout the state of Minnesota.

Our Nondestructive Testing Group used ultrasonic and visual inspection to observe that installed anchors complied with MnDOT standards. We also performed load tests on anchor bolts to qualify them for appropriate pull-out loads of 23,000 pounds per square inch. We inspected the installed equipment and re-inspected if corrective actions were required.

AET Petrography Webinar

Forensic Geology/Petrography: What Aggregate Analyses Tell Us About Concrete

1/26/2022, 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM CST

AET takes you inside an examination of aggregates and concrete to understand the standards, cover typical observations, and review past projects.

We’ll also answer these questions and many others:

  • Does AET use XRD?
  • Are there methods for detecting problem minerals (like pyrrhotite) using GIS?
  • Can deleterious materials in aggregates lead to court cases?
  • Besides the ASTM standards, what other references does AET recommend for aspiring material petrographers?

Learn From the Best

The AET Petrography Webinar is presented by Chris Braaten, PG, CPG, a Senior Petrographer/Geologist at American Engineering Testing, Inc. Chris has performed petrographic analysis on construction aggregates from 49 US States and 18 different countries/territories.
