He is responsible for managing the operations of the Williston regional office as well as providing specialized consulting, geotechnical evaluations, and design for horizontal and vertical development projects.
Mr. Slack’s 30 years of career experience include geotechnical, environmental, water resource, and mining engineering. These activities include geotechnical explorations, subsurface data collecting, geotechnical engineering evaluations, foundations, civil site design, storm water management, Brownfield/Superfund site cleanup, and water resources analyses and flood studies. He is well regarded for his extensive knowledge of landfill/waste treatment site design, dam design, and roadway improvements. Key projects Mr. Slack has led include; the Rogers Dam in Lovelock, Nevada on the Humboldt River; the Bishop Creek Dam, Irrigation, and Recreation Facility on the upper reaches of the Humboldt River north of Wells, Nevada; the Whitewood Creek Superfund Site near Sturgis, South Dakota; design of the Annie Creek Mine in Lead, South Dakota, extensive project work with Indian Health Services (IHS) in North and South Dakota; Eagle Butte Landfill; and improvements to North Dakota Hwy 85.
Prior to joining AET, Mr. Slack owned and managed Walter Slack Engineering. He earned his bachelors and masters degrees in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University. He is a licensed engineer in North Dakota, Montana, Nevada, and California. Mr. Slack is an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce.
